Garden of Hope Easter egg quest is fun in the sun

THE Garden of Hope’s weekend Easter egg hunt was a big success after 400 people came to the garden on Saturday.

And on Easter Sunday 10 happy families foraged together for the Easter Bunny’s treats.

Mums, dads, brothers and sisters enjoyed a range of festive activities including egg-and-spoon races, the egg hunt and the Easter Sunday service.

Director Debbie Halliwell said it was important over Easter for communities to get families together in ways they might not experience elsewhere.

“We wanted to provide a space for families to bond and make memories over Easter,” Ms Halliwell said.

She said the Garden of Hope did not want to let down families after the wrong date was printed in a local tourism magazine and decided to extend its egg hunt until Sunday.

“We were only going to hold the event on Saturday … but we didn’t want to disappoint any families.

“And we think it’s a beautiful thing for families to want to get out and enjoy their community together.”

To maximise the number of happy campers, hunters were split into age groups.

Organisers ensured no one melted on the day, through the erection of several gazebos, alongside the permanent shade structure.

Ms Halliwell said getting back into the swing of things after COVID-19 restrictions felt “fantastic”.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, bringing people together … and sharing in Easter together.”
