HENDERSON college students got out and active on Thursday for the school's athletics carnival.

Students from prep to year 10 participated in the various sports, with some modified for the younger students.

"We sort of have two athletics carnivals going on at the same time, the older kids in the proper events and the eight year olds do modified versions," coordinating teacher Michelle Johnson said.

"They are using modified equipment so it is safer for the littlies, but they still do the track events."

Ms Johnson said it was great to have so many parents attending the event again.

"Last year we weren't able to have parents so it is a much better atmosphere having the families here," she said.

"It was actually quite a good turnout, in terms of student participation it seems to be up this year."

Ms Johnson said she glad the rain also held out so the students could participate in all the events.
