Heat halts home and away games

THE final day of the home and away season for senior cricket has been abandoned due to extreme heat.

Saturday and Sunday’s two-day games for the under-16 grand final between Mildura West and Gol Gol Coomealla, and under-14 grand final between Irymple and Mildura West White however will still go ahead with a slightly earlier start time.

It means finals positions have now been sorted across all four senior grades.

In first division, minor premiers Gol Gol will host Mildura West at Alcheringa Oval, while reigning champions Irymple face last year’s grand final opponents Mildura East at Henshilwood Oval.

The situation is less clear in second division until final results are officially dialled in, but Coomealla Wentworth’s first innings points against Nichols Point in the final round before cancellation may be enough to move them into the top four alongside former Red Cliffs Cricket Association clubs Ouyen and Nursery Ridge and Irymple.

In third division, Tempy will host Mildura West and Mildura Royals will be at home against Merbein in their semi-finals.

Fourth division, who only play one-day games, had their round 17 matches abandoned, with only quotient totals separating third from sixth on the ladder.

As it stands, Mildura East Blue will face Mildura Settlers, while South West tackle Mildura West.

Senior semi-finals begin next Saturday.
