Last hitout before semis

THE top four has been secured in Sunraysia Cricket Association Women’s competition, but who plays who in the semi-finals is still be determined in Friday night’s final round.

Mildura Settlers and Mildura West share the same points and will have the home ground advantage in next week’s semis, while Coomealla Wentworth and Nichols Point Gold are also equal on points in third and fourth respectively.

A potential semi-final preview between Settlers and Gold takes place at Mildura Senior College.

Ladder leaders for much of the season, Setts have lost just once, coming against reigning premiers West back in round four.

Setts have three batters inside the top 10 for run scorers including league leader Shania McKinnon (408), Sarah Telfer (344) and Ella Dingwall (212), while Telfer (13 wickets) and Jess de Tarczynski (eight) have been impressive with the ball.

For Nichols Point, teenager Eadie Neagle has had a strong all-round season with 189 and seven wickets, Nancy Kirirua-Gill is just outside the top 10 for runs with 180, and Tatiana Kirirua-Gill (10 wickets) and Isabella Forrester (eight) have been their leading bowlers.

Mildura West venture out to Henshilwood Oval to face Irymple in the Swallows’ final match of the year.

Aside from their loss to Settlers just before Christmas, the squad from John Hall Oval have impressive as they aim to go back-to-back, and some close wins within those 12 victories will give them confidence for tight finals contests.

Addison Bell has been superb with the ball, joint second for wickets with 14, Tara Martin and Demi Zanoni’s impacts as all-rounders have been huge, while Breanna Smith has put together a solid campaign with the bat (236 runs).

For the Swallows, Airlei Taylor (176) and Jo Wood (137) have been the best of the batting line-up, while Maya McGregor’s 12 scalps has her inside the competition’s top 10.

Fifth-placed Gol Gol were in top four contention for much of the season, but will look to finish the season on a high at Alcheringa Oval.

Their opponents Coomealla Wentworth however have won their last four games to rocket into third on the ladder.

Blues star Katelin Kemp has led the way with 403 runs and seven wickets, however Megan Johnston (192 runs) has been great in the back half of the season, while Tauta Rangirua and Imogen Smith (nine wickets each) have led the bowling attack.

Abby Collihole led the run for Gol Gol this season with 243 along with 10 wickets, while Megan Collihole (14 wickets and 198 runs) and Emily Collihole (14) have also played important roles.

Mildura East and Merbein will also play their final matches of the season when they collide at Mildura Sporting Precinct.

Taya Higgins leads the league bowling with 15 wickets and a few more scalps could secure that title for the season, while Sienna Charles (11 wickets, 139 runs) and Sonia Drew (182) have performed well.

Eden Trinick has had a great all-round season for the Magpies with 14 wickets and 208 runs, while Amy Cupper (262), Laylee Trinick (219 runs and eight wickets) and Michelle Griffiths (12 wickets) have had strong campaigns.

Nichols Point Green have the final round bye.
