Heat rule brought into play

THE newly cemented Sunraysia Cricket Association heat rule is set to come into effect for the first time with senior matches being cancelled this weekend.

Updated by laws now see Sunraysia Cricket Association senior matches cancelled if the predicted temperature is 40 degrees Celsius or higher, down from the previous total of 42 degrees.

Changes were made after the weekend of February 1, with the safety of players and umpires alike at the forefront of the decision.

Women’s matches on Friday nights already have a cut-off temperature of 40 degrees, as do junior games.

Saturday, the start of the penultimate round of the first division home and away season, marks the first week of senior cricket that has been cancelled this season due to the weather, be it heat or rain.

Modified fixtures for first, second and third divisions, who are all playing two-day games, will be set for next week.

Senior finals begin on Saturday, March 22.
