Plenty to play for in the run home

THERE is plenty to play for in the remaining four rounds of the SCA Women’s season, with some big games lying ahead in the run home to finals.

Mildura Settlers and Mildura West, both on 95 points, are realistically one win away from locking in their top two position and a home final, meanwhile third place to down to seventh are all still in contention for the top four.

Defending champions West will do battle with Mildura East at John Hall Oval with both sides coming off victories last week.

West defeated Merbein by 64 runs as Tara Martin’s scoring spree continued retiring at 41, while Breanna Smith (29 not out) and Ruby Woollard (21 not out), enjoyed an unbroken 40-run stand as they made 2/127.

Smith followed up her good work with the ball taking 3/8 and Demi Zanoni 2/9.

East secured an important five-wicket win over Nichols Point Green last week to take themselves a further rung up the ladder.

Taya Higgins was outstanding with the ball taking 4/5 and Sienna Charles continued her impressive run with 2/7 before scoring an unbeaten 16 to lead the run chase home.

At Chaffey Park, Merbein play host to Nichols Point Gold as the Magpies look to keep themselves in the finals hunt.

Despite going down to West last week, Laylee Trinick showed plenty for the Magpies in her solid knock of 17 against a strong bowling attack.

Trinick and Amy Cupper also took wickets.

Meanwhile it was a rare loss for third-placed Point Gold last week, just their third of the season, and they will look to bounce back in an important fixture.

Eadie Neagle was their best with the bat last week with 27, while Elitama Akima was solid with bat and ball.

Ladder leaders Mildura Settlers come face-to-face with Irymple, who are coming off the bye.

Setts defeated Gol Gol by nine wickets last week, following up a strong bowling performance with a swift run chase.

Sarah Telfer was in fine form, claiming 3/8 with the ball before scoring an unbeaten 22 to get her side home. Breanna Bagnall was also solid with 17 at better than a run a ball.

The Swallows ran Mildura East close in their last encounter.

Jo Wood has been in superb touch with the bat with 40 and 38 in her last two innings, while Maya McGregor sits joint second in the wicket-taking tally with 11.

Finally, fourth-placed Coomealla Wentworth tackle ninth-placed Nichols Point Green at George Gordon Oval.

A massive seven-wicket win for the Blues over third place Point Gold which moved them inside the top four.

Adrienne Fielding’s bowling form continued with a team best 3/5, while Tauta Rangiura and Imogen Smith both took two wickets each.

Megan Johnston impressed again with the bat making an unbeaten 32 in the run chase, while captain Katelin Kemp scored 20.

Green gave a strong account of themselves against East last week, with captain Gypsy Gange taking 3/9, and almost claiming a hat-trick in the process.

Gol Gol has the bye.
