West, Setts, set for massive clash

A TOP of the table clash between Mildura West and Mildura Settlers headlines the final round of SCA Women’s cricket for 2024.

Six rounds are still to be played in the new years before finals, with round 12 to mark a resumption of the season on Friday, January 31.

Defending premiers West and an in-form Settlers side come head-to-head at Mildura Senior College for what looms as a huge contest.

Home side Settlers have been led brilliantly with the bat by leading run scorer Shania McKinnon, whose 260 runs include five knocks over 40 from her seven innings.

Sarah Telfer has also been in great form with scores of 41, 51 and 41 in her past three innings.

Abbey Aldridge and Ella Dingwall are also both inside the top 10 for runs scored in the competition.

Addison Bell is one of three players joined at the top of the wicket-taking tally for West with 11 scalps for the season, while Sesha Achillingham (eight), Demi Zanoni (six) and Georgie West (six) have all been dangerous with the ball.

Tara Martin sits third in the runs tally with 223, while captain Breanna Smith and Zanoni have also been good performers with the bat.

It should make for a cracking contest.

Meanwhile Nichols Point have a derby clash as their Gold and Green sides face off in their last contest of the calendar year.

The Gold side are fourth on the ladder and are coming off the bye, while Green are still aiming for win number two of the campaign after a seven-wicket loss to Gol Gol.

Rani Weightman was solid with the bat for Green with 21 runs, while Annie O’Rourke claimed 2/5 with the ball.

Coomealla Wentworth and Mildura East are both fighting to keep pace with the top four, making a win for either side at George Gordon Oval extremely important.

The Blues will look to bounce back post their 70-run loss to Settlers last week, while East had a 10-wicket win against an under strength Merbein outfit.

Katelin Kemp was still in great touch for the Blues scoring an unbeaten 39, while Adrienne Fielding also impressed with 27.

Sonia Drew’s unbeaten 31 helped lead East to a much-needed win.

In the final match Irymple are at home to third-placed Gol Gol.

The Swallows gave a great account of themselves against West last week with Kristy Carter taking 3/25 before Jo Wood made an impressive 40 in her team’s total of 87.

They also have one of the leading bowlers in the competition with Maya McGregor equal first on 11 wickets.

Gol Gol, who had a seven-wicket win last week, have been led well by Emily Collihole (11 wickets), Abby Collihole (169 runs and eight wickets) and Megan Collihole (150 runs).

Merbein have the bye, with a number of their players taking part in the inaugural Merbein Football Netball Club versus Merbein Cricket Club Twenty20 match.
