Top of ladder crowded

SUNRAYSIA Premier Women’s cricket has an extremely congested table after five rounds, with just 10 points separating ladder leaders Mildura West from Gol Gol in sixth.

Some big matches this week could see some further shuffling of the order.

Hot on the heels of their first win of the season, Irymple will host Merbein at Henshilwood Reserve after the Magpies fortunes reversed and they suffered their first loss of the season last week.

Airlie Taylor was superb with the bat for the Swallows making an unbeaten 36 during the four wicket win over Mildura East, which was won via a bye on the final ball of the match.

Earlier, Kristy Carter put in a superb performance in the field with 2/25 plus a catch.

Amy Cupper’s strong batting form continued for the Magpies making 30 of her side’s 82 runs against Coomealla Wentworth, while Laylee Trinick and captain Michelle Griffiths were among the wickets.

Mildura West remain undefeated following their 65-run win over Gol Gol, and take on Nichols Point Green at John Hall Oval.

Captain Breanna Smith (42 retired), Tara Martin (40) and Lorriane Lowerson (21) were all in great form with the bat as they made 5/137.

They then put together some extremely extremely tight bowling with Martin going for just 1.5 per over, while Addison Bell was impressive with the new ball.

It was a tough day at the office for Green last week in the Nichols Point derby, but Chrissy Villiva was able to take their only wicket, while captain Gypsy Gange performed well with the bat to make 16 not out.

Coomealla Wentworth find themselves fourth on the ladder after last week’s win over Merbein as they are set to host Mildura East at George Gordon Oval.

Captain Katelin Kemp was again outstanding with the bat making an unbeaten 37 in her side’s seven wicket win over the Magpies.

Janice Kemp also made 15 not out and was among a spread of bowlers to take wickets for the Blues.

For East Tayler, Brooks was their best with the bat against Irymple with 20 not out, while Taya Higgins took 2/12 after making 16 in the first knock.

Finally, an impressive Nichols Point Gold side will face Mildura Settlers at the reserve.

Gold made 1/127 against Green last week, headlined by Teoi Kirirua-Gill (42) and Eadie Neagle (40) both retiring not out, while Nancy Kiriua-Gill added an extra 21.

Matapa Tenupale and Isabella Forrester then each took three wickets to help secure the win.

Setts return from the bye with Shania McKinnon still leading the competition runs tally with 125, while Ella Dingwall has also impressed with 91 runs alongside three wickets.

Gol Gol has the bye this round.
