Rising cricket star’s leadership role

A LOCAL athlete will make his way to the crease on Saturday to compete in the Boys 15 Years and Under Cricket Championships in Mackay, Queensland.

Josh Driscoll said he felt well prepared and was looking forward to representing the state again on the national stage.

“It’s very exciting, it’s one of my biggest achievements,” he said. “I can’t wait.”

“Being named vice-captain also really helps with my confidence.

“There is also a lot of nerves because I know I have to perform, but it’s also a bit of fun to just be around the boys.

“Being vice-captain you have to be a leader to the boys so you have to get around them and make sure everyone is happy.

“I’m just going to go out and give it my best.”

In preparation, Driscoll said he had been practising at the nets a lot more than previous years in order to remain active.

“I know everyone on the Vic team and we have been able to have seven or so practice sessions together, so that has been really good,” he said.

“I don’t really know many people on the opponents’ teams.

“But we have got Queensland up first and apparently they will be really good.

“Queensland and WA are probably two teams to look out for, so hopefully we beat them.”

Driscoll also plays local footy and hopes to return to Mildura in time to help his team for finals.

The cricket championships run from August 31 to September 6.
