West and Coomealla Point win through to grand final

THE two best sides from the Sunraysia Cricket Association Premier Women’s season are through to Friday’s grand final after Mildura West and Coomealla Point won their respective semi-finals.

Minor premiers West ran down the target of 73 set by Mildura East comfortably with seven wickets in hand, while the combined side’s 2/102 proved just enough to hold off Mildura Settlers by just five runs.

At John Hall Oval, defending premiers East were sent in to bat first by West and solid knocks by Caitlin Finch (26) and Taya Higgins (17 not out) saw them reach 6/72 from their 20 overs,

West captain Breanna Smith led the bowling with 2/13.

The home side were able to chase down the target with five overs to spare, with opening batter Lorriane Lowerson (27 not out) and Tara Martin (18) leading the run chase.

Coomealla Point captain and competition leading scorer Kaitlyn Kemp retired not out, reaching 30 for the seventh time this season, and youngster Eadie Neagle’s impressive 26 also helped their side to 2/102 from their 20 overs.

Kemp has 311 runs for the campaign at a huge average of 155.5.

Competition leading wicket-taker Adrienne Fielding and Jess de Tarczynski both took a wicket each for Setts.

Abbey Aldridge (30 retired), Shania McKinnon (28) and Steph Nicholson-Leask (24) did their best to get Setts home, but Kemp’s 2/18 was enough to restrict the visitors to 3/97.
