Batter’s big wicket haul

BOWLING wasn’t even on the bingo card for Mildura West’s Lucy Plisko prior to last Friday’s SCA Premier Women’s cricket match, but she ended it with the best individual figures of the season so far.

Playing primarily as a batter for her adopted club since moving from Melbourne last year, Plisko finished with 5/13, the first five-wicket haul of the competition, to help the ladder leaders to a nine-wicket win over Gol Gol.

She took all five of the Gol Gol wickets that fell and was even on a hat-trick in the second-last over.

“I definitely wasn’t planning on that,” Plisko said.

“I just wanted to bowl full and straight and being a bit of a tricky pitch for the batters, it managed to work in my favour.

“Our pace bowlers were all on target but they just couldn’t make the breakthrough.

“I managed to start the season pretty well with a few 30s but on Friday we had a few players missing and needed an extra bowler so they flicked it to me… and somehow I got five wickets.”

Mildura West are looking to add to their Premier Women’s flag from the 2020/21 season and Plisko is keen help them get there.

With two games remaining before finals, West have secured a home semi, with the combined Coomealla Point side also close to finalising a top-two finish.

“My wife and I moved to Mildura last year with our son, but before that, I played for Wycliff CC in Melbourne for about four seasons,” Plisko said.

“This is my first year with Westies and first season playing post-baby. It’s been amazing, it’s such a welcoming club and we’ve felt right at home.

“If I have Darcy with me, then they all take turns to look after him while I’m batting, it’s just such a great vibe.

“We’re super grateful for the people we’ve met so far, its feeling a lot like home.

“Our aim is to win the whole thing but to keep enjoying ourselves while we’re at it.

“If we can keep performing and keep our belief, hopefully we can go all the way.”

On Friday night, Mildura West host Irymple at John Hall Oval, a week removed from the Swallows winning their first game of the season.

In the other penultimate round games, Gol Gol host Nichols Point at Alcheringa Oval, Merbein are at home to Mildura East at Chaffey Park, and Coomealla Point face Mildura Settlers at George Gordon Oval.
