Rampaging Ram a big hit

IT’S been described on the Ouyen Rams group Facebook page as the Glenn Maxwell-Pat Cummins partnership.

Similar to the ridiculous stand during the recent ODI World Cup where Maxwell pounded Afghanistan for 201 not out, there was an aggressor and one to hold up an end for the Rams in their win over Nursery Ridge.

Brad Parsons clearly was in no mood to wait around after the defending premiers held Nursery Ridge to just 87 from their 40 overs.

Ouyen ran down the total in just seven-and-a-half overs, Parsons belting a frankly absurd 83 from 36 deliveries including eight sixes.

Four of those sixes came in the last five balls he faced, one of them bringing up the 10-wicket victory.

Fellow opener Daniel Kay played the supporting role in the unbroken partnership, scoring two from 12 deliveries.

“It’s been an ongoing joke in the group chat about being a Maxwell-Cummins style partnership,” Parsons said.

“Daniel and I are good mates and it was nice to have him out there with me.

“I didn’t really have any intentions of going out there and hitting the ball as hard as I did, everything just kind of came out of the middle for me.

“Other than the 100 I made last year, it’s probably the best I’ve felt the ball coming on to the bat ever.

“Between Dan and I, we worked out that he would try and hang around as long as possible while I’d try and push the runs, but I was surprised at how well they came off as I haven’t had much of a bat this year.”

The reigning A Grade champions are 5-1 to start the season, their solitary loss coming to Robinvale Euston in the opening round.

Parsons said it has been great to get the results without the side playing their best cricket.

“We had a massive hiccup in round 1, which was disappointing, but we’ve been able get across the line in every game since then,” he said.

“Having a similar side to last year, we thought we’d be around the mark.

“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves as we don’t feel like we’ve played all that well at times, but still managed to be on the right end of the stick.

“Hopefully, we’ll have our full side available for the back half of the season.”

Ouyen Rams are at home to Millewa on Saturday at Blackburn Park, while not far down the highway, Tempy Tigers will clash with Robinvale Euston Rangers at Tempy Rec Reserve.
