SINCE losing their first match of the season to Nichols Point, Mildura East have bounced back to form in the Women’s Kookaburra Association.
Sitting in second place, East will be looking to continue their run and extract revenge against Nichols Point, a team that scored freely against them the first time they met.
Nichols Point opening batters, Annie O’Rourke (23 runs) and Mya Newey (30 retired not out) both performed strongly to help their team chase down 105 in just 17 overs.
Coach Rob Pallot said Nichols Point put in a strong performance last time the two sides met.
“They played really well but our team’s been building very nicely since that first round,” Pallot said.
“They do have some very good batters that you do have to be wary of.
“We were probably short a few of the better players, I expect a better line-up this week.
“Overall the teamwork of the team has been good, there’s been a real harmony among the players.”
After two rounds of interrupted cricket so far in the 2023 season, Pallot hoped rainfall would cease before Friday.
Meanwhile, Mildura West, who remain undefeated, will match up against fifth-placed Merbein.
Merbein’s last win was in round three when they defeated Irymple by one run.
A win could put them back in finals contention but will be a difficult task against West, which has been the best team in the competition so far.
Over at Chaffey Park, the fourth-placed Mildura Settlers play against the winless Gol Gol.
Lastly, Irymple will be hoping to kickstart their season against Coomealla Point.
Although they’ve won just the one game, a few narrow losses against higher-placed teams should mean that Irymple consider themselves a chance, despite a loss the last time the two teams met.
