Night game to begin SCA season

NOT long after the football boots have been put away, the cricket spikes will be found in the cupboard.

The Sunraysia Cricket Association is scheduled to return in early October, with First Division clubs to play seven one-day and seven two-day fixtures in the home and away season.

The season is set to commence with one-day games, opened by a night contest on Friday, October 6, between Coomealla Wentworth and Merbein at George Gordon Oval.

While the final fixture is still to be confirmed, Mildura East are likely to begin the season at their new home of Mildura Sporting Precinct against Irymple.

Rounds 9 and 10 will take place back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday January 13 and 14, 2024, to account for the Australia Day weekend break.

The white ball final will also be contested on Sunday, January 21, the day after the final round of one-day games.

Twenty20 competition will run on Thursday nights with games in November and December and two in February prior to the final in early March.

Semi-finals are currently slated for March 16 and 17, with the grand finals the following week of March 23 and 24.

The Senior Women’s competition, meanwhile, will return on Friday, October 13 in its usual Twenty20 format, with the premiers to be crowned on March 15.
