Mildura Settlers v Irymple – Mildura Senior College
FOLLOWING last week’s surprise loss to Coomealla Wentworth, Irymple will look to bounce back against Mildura Settlers in a bid to secure a home final.
Last round the Swallows’ top order failed to ignite against the Blues, but with the likes of Mark Thomson, Bryson Lush and Nick Giofre at the top of the order, plus Jarrad Armsden down the list, there’s enough fire power to get the job done.
Add in a strong bowling outfit and they look the stronger of the side, but Settlers would be keen on playing spoilers in their final couple of game.
Setts managed to avoid an outright defeat at the hands of Merbein, with Harvey Ault showing some fight with a second innings 52.
Gol Gol v Coomealla Wentworth – Alcheringa Oval
THIS contest could have huge implications on the outlook of the finals series as Coomealla Wentworth chase a second big-time victory in a row over Gol Gol.
The fifth-placed Blues surprise win over second-placed Irymple last week leaves them only a smidgen behind Mildura West in the run for a top four position.
Coomealla Wentworth feel like their are hitting their straps at the right time, with Colby Wade posting a maiden century last week and their full bowling attack looking even more dangerous with the addition of Jarrod Brander.
Gol Gol, however, are undefeated for a reason and have stars across every line including Wade Hancock, Shac Thomas and Matt Cameron who took five wickets last week.
Nichols Point v Mildura East – Nichols Point Reserve
NICHOLS Point’s hunt for a home final begins against Mildura East as they look to claw back points on second-placed Irymple.
The Pointers ran into the brick wall that is Gol Gol last week, but wins over East and Merbein could propel them into the top two.
A win would also confirm their maiden First Division finals berth since rejoining the SCA, however Mildura East are still in with a shot after upsetting the apple cart with wins over the Pointers and Settlers.
East import Josh Bowyer has hit good form with his first century on Australian soil last round and will need to fire again to keep them in touching distance.
Merbein v Mildura West – Chaffey Park
MILDURA West still hold sway in the race for finals but with Merbein also ready to swoop for the top four, this contest at Chaffey Park could be vital for the pecking order.
West are in fourth and just ahead on points but a victory and a percentage boost for the Magpies could place the whole situation into chaos.
West will be buoyed by the strong batting form of Englishman Kian Burns and a returning Tom Holmes to take pressure off Chris Williams, while Charlie Walker has been impressive with ball in hand.
Magpies skipper Mark East will be the danger man following his unbeaten 149 last round, while Tony Trinick and Brady Moore both impressed wicket wise.
