Suns shine in Premier League

MALLEE Murray Suns’ Under 15 Girls cricket side has impressed at Youth Premier League level this week.

The Sunraysia and Swan Hill based side finished fifth in the Renegades division after completing the series in Melbourne and Geelong with two wins, a tie and two losses.

It was a strong performance from the underdog region under the stewardship of Shaun Mathews, Tara Martin and Jenny Donnelly against solid opposition sides.

Following their first round win over Northern Rivers last week, Monday saw them go down to Metro West Spirit by eight wickets.

Nichols Point duo Eadie Neagle and Makenzie Holy led the way with the bat, scoring 37 and 20 not out respectively as the Suns finished at 8/143.

Holy and fellow Pointer Bronte Fryar both took wickets as the Spirit chased down the total with four overs to spare.

Tuesday was an exciting tied game against Country Western Waves in a Twenty20 match.

Mildura West’s Addison Bell top scored with 17 as the Suns finished at 7/65, before Irymple’s Maya McGregor (2/9)and Mildura Settlers’ Abbey Aldridge (2/17) impressed with the ball as the Waves finished on the same total.

There was a big win for the Suns on Wednesday by 85 runs over the Barwon Rockets.

It was an all-round win for Aldridge, top scoring with 38 and taking 2/7, while Holy (16 and 2/4), Mildura East’s Taya Higgins (17), Gol Gol’s Megan Collihole (17) and Fryar (2/9) all put in impressive performances.

In their final match on Thursday, the Suns went down in a T20 contest to Metro North West Wizards at Princes Park.

Batting first, the Suns finished at 8/74, with Aldridge (13), Nyah’s Issy Boulton (11) and Ultima TUF’s Reese Parsons (10 not out) top scoring.
