Thomas stars for Gol Gol

ALL-ROUNDER Shacaya Thomas continued his stellar season on Saturday, leading frontrunners Gol Gol to victory in their Sunraysia Cricket Association First Division one-day clash with NSW rivals Coomealla Wentworth.

Thomas made a stylish 69 in Gol Gol’s total of 3/184 off their 40 overs before taking 4/28 as the visitors bowled out Coomealla Wentworth for 165 at George Gordon Oval.

He is leading the way in the race to be player of the year ahead of Mildura West star Chris Williams, who stole the show in his team’s win against Merbein at John Hall Oval.

Williams smashed 121 not out in West’s massive total of 4/236 off their 40 overs before backing up with 3/28 as Merbein finished with 8/141.

Gol Gol remain unbeaten after nine rounds, ahead of Irymple, who had a strong win against Mildura Settlers at Henshilwood Oval.

Mark Thomson crushed 87 not out for Irymple after the reigning premiers were all out for 151.

Setts, who are going through a rebuilding phase after losing a swag of stars this season, sit bottom of the ladder with just one win in nine outings.

Third-placed Nichols Point are a team on the move after they easily beat Mildura East at No.1 Oval.

Openers Shaun Mathews, who is third in the player-of-the-year race, and Leigh Thomson-Mathews ensured a 10-wicket win for the Pointers against Mildura East, who finished with 6/127 off their 40 overs.

Mathews hit 66 not out and Thomson-Mathews 58 not out to see the Pointers home to victory.

The Pointers are leading the club championship after round 9, ahead of Gol Gol and Irymple.
