Success for veterans

SUCCESS came for multiple Sunraysia cricketers playing for South Australia in the Veterans Cricket Australia Over 50s championships in Adelaide.

Tom Vadlja and Tony Hickey both tasted glory in Division 1 as the Silverbacks won Thursday’s final over Victoria.

Vadlja took 2/2 and made an unbeaten 14 as their side won by four wickets, chasing down the target of 105.

Stewart Hallam, John Mensforth and Darren James all played in SA’s Division 1 title win against NSW Waratahs as the Silverbacks chased down 171 with four wickets in hand.

Hallam starred with the ball taking 4/20 while in the chase Mensforth scored 25.

In Division 3, that SA team that included Mark White and Brad Purdue were victorious in their second-place play-off against WA Quokkas.

Batting first the Silverbacks were all out for 188, holding their opponents to 168 in the process.

SA were unable to win their second-placed play-off in Division 4 against Victoria, with Justin MacFarlane and Melville Lyons playing their part.

MacFarlane retired not out on 37 and Lyons made 23 not out as the Silverbacks finished at 7/164, however the Vics were able to chase down the total with seven wickets to spare.
