Gol Gol, Settlers impress

GOL GOL and Mildura Settlers remain the only undefeated teams in Sunraysia’s Club Twenty20 competition after two rounds.

SCA leaders Gol Gol defeated Mildura East by nine wickets at Alcheringa Oval on Thursday, with Wade Hancock leading the run chase with 57 from 45 balls. Shac Thomas also impressed with an unbeaten 32 as Gol Gol reached their target of 101 in 15 overs.

Earlier, East were held to 8/100 from their 20 overs, opener Blake Meyers top scoring with 31 from 33 deliveries. Kain Berryman (2/10) and Luke Hickey (2/17) led the bowling.

Master blaster Jason Morrison’s 53 from 38 deliveries helped Settlers to a final over six-run victory over Coomealla Wentworth at George Gordon Oval.

His knock helped Setts to 8/119 from their 20 overs, with Blues bowlers Liam Freeman (3/17) and Jake Wright (3/19) posting impressive bowling figures.

During the run chase, Setts duo Mark Cleary’s 3/16 and Keegan MacDonald’s 3/19 saw the Blues all out in the final over for 113, despite the best efforts of twins Bevan (37 from 31) and Colby Wade (20 from 14).

A half century from captain Shaun Mathews led Nichols Point to a 16-run victory over Irymple at Nichols Point Reserve.

Mathews (51 from 40), a returning Kaushik Aphale (46 from 38) and coach Luke Coates (33 from 23) all batted well to help the Point to 5/163 from their allotted overs. Dom Price led the way for Irymple with 2/28.

In response the Swallows managed 8/147 with co-coach Nick Giofre (44 from 31) and skipper Mark Thomson (38 from 26) leading the charge.

Coates, Mathews and Lewis Dichiera all finished with two wickets for the Point.

A pounding 58 from just 27 deliveries, which included six maximums, from Lachy Lawrence led Mildura West to a 41-run win over Merbein at John Hall Oval.

Lawrence, Chris Williams (41 from 30) and Joel Minter (22 from 24) saw West reach 5/155 from their 20 overs.

In response Merbein finished with 4/114 from their innings, captain Ash Durie the top scorer with an unbeaten 35 from 34 balls.
