Williams leads charge

MILDURA West star Chris Williams put Mildura East in a spin to claim an outstanding 7/19 on the way to a three-wicket victory in SCA cricket.

Williams’ haul, his best figures since MyCricket began recording in 2006/07, led to East being bowled out for 89 at Brian Weightman Oval.

Campbell Vadlja (20) and Tyson Giles (19) top scored for East, with West Import Charlie Walker’s 2/13 somewhat overshadowed by his fellow Englishman.

West made it across the line at 7/93 led by Lachie Lawrence (29) and Shane Driscoll (25 not out). Jayden Hunt, Mukesh Sharma and Surendra Prajapat each took two wickets for East.

At George Gordon Oval Irymple were able to keep Coomealla Wentworth at arm’s length to win their contest by 14 runs, sitting them alongside Gol Gol as the only undefeated teams to start the 2022/23 season.

A quickfire 44 from 39 deliveries courtesy of Liam Garlick, along with scores in the 20’s from five other batsmen, helped the Swallows to 7/177 from their allotted overs, Bevan Wade, Jake Wright and Michael Hilliard each nabbed two wickets for the Blues.

Mitch Kemp made his second half-century in as many innings for Coomealla Wentworth, scoring 64 from 66 delivers, however his side couldn’t rein in the total, falling short at 7/163.

Ryan Muir (4/13) and Bailey Anderson (2/40) led the bowling for Irymple.

An unbeaten 51 from young gun Dillon Furze helped Merbein to a tight two-wicket victory over Mildura Settlers at Kenny Park, their first win of the season.

Coming in at number four, Furze helped guide the run chase home, alongside Tony Trinick (22) with three deliveries to spare to reach 8/143. Brad Purdue, Cooper Aldridge and Keegan MacDonald each took two wickets for Setts.

Earlier Joel Perry’s 52, and 35 from Cameron Kiel, saw Setts reach 3/142 from their 40 overs, with Riley Clifford, Stuart Watson and Hamim Miah all grabbing wickets for Merbein.

A maiden First Division century from Aidan Calarco, sharing in a massive 171-run opening stand with Shacaya Thomas, led Gol Gol to a 76-run victory over Nichols Point at Alcheringa Oval.

Shaun Mathews, Davison Mbindi and Charlie Butcher each grabbed a wicket for Nichols Point.

For the second week in a row Mathews top scored for the Pointers making 54 as they ended their 40 overs at 6/133. Dean Fulco added a handy 29 not out in the middle order, while Luke Hickey continued his good bowling form with 3/30.
