Water leaks force Pointers to move

NICHOLS Point Cricket Club senior men’s and women’s teams will have to wait another week to play their first home match of the season after the club relocated this weekend’s home games following delays to the ground extension works at Nichols Point Oval.

The extension of about five metres had been required to allow the club to use all six turf pitches on the oval.

However, the contractor extending the field on the Nichols Point School side of the oval discovered water leaks in the outfield.

Nichols Point were due to face Gol Gol at home but will now relocate to Alcheringa oval for a double header with second division to start at noon and first division at 5pm.

The location of the Nichols Point Green’s match with Irymple is still to be confirmed. Nichols Point Gold has a bye.

Club president Karl Ferguson said the club had worked with Lower Murray Water to rectify the situation with the leak and organised for the ground extension to be completed.

“We’re working with the contractor to complete the ground extension, which will hopefully be completed by next Friday,” Mr Ferguson said.

“We expect to have one women’s game and we’ll be playing on Saturday morning and afternoon and Sunday here.”

The club added two new turf pitches last year in a bit to keep up with demand of junior and senior cricket
