Wyld about Over 40s

A DIFFERENT experience in a competitive environment excites Sunraysia Cricket Association stalwart Richie Wyld.

The former Innes Medal winner, alongside fellow guns Mark Cleary and Tom Vadlja, have been selected for South Australia in the inaugural Over 40s National Championship in Sydney and Newcastle in November.

Tarque Williamson, a former Mildura Settlers player now based in the Riverland, is also part of the squad.

Meanwhile, Sunraysia players are also prominent in the SA Over 50 squad who’s championships will be played in Adelaide. The selection includes Stewart Hallam, Tony Hickey, Ross Huxtable, Darren James, Mel Lyons, Justin Macfarlane, Brad Purdue, Anthony Telfer, Tom Vadlja and Mark White.

The Over 40 squad will be split into two teams who will compete in four one-day games over a week of competition.

“Getting the chance to play against different people and I’m guessing we’ll be at some pretty nice grounds and facilities around Sydney… I’m really looking forward to it,” Wyld said.

“The feedback I’ve gotten from the Over 50s guys is that it’s pretty intense and the guys go pretty hard.

“I think the standard is going to be pretty high. It’s something a bit different too.

“I love playing in the SCA but I’ve just needed a bit of a break away from that, and when this opportunity came up, it’s a chance to still scratch that cricket itch and get to experience something different. A week of games before putting my feet up again sounds pretty good too!”
