MALLEE Murray’s under-15 Girls Youth Premier League side has won many admirers for their performances this week.
While it was a tough day at the office yesterday to finish their campaign, the experience gained from facing high-level opponents will hold the youngsters in good stead.
The Suns finished with a 3-4 record in the Renegades League, with the top side Western Spirit today facing the winners of the Stars League South East Bayside Breakers.
On Wednesday, the Suns recorded a 12-run victory in a Twenty20 game against Northern Rivers, before a nine-wicket defeat to Central Highlanders. Yesterday they lost to the Spirit by 87 runs.
Against Rivers, Abby Collihole scored 48 at the top of the order, with some handy knocks also coming from Lucinda Marks (13), Abbey Aldridge (11) and Issy Boulton (11) to score 7/107.
In response, Northern Rivers were off to a great start with a 48-run opening stand, before losing four wickets for 15 runs to find themselves at 4/63.
The next six wickets fell for 22 runs as the Suns bowlers piled on the pressure. Demi Zanoni finished with exceptional figures of 4/9, while Makenzie Holy chimed in with 2/17.
In game two against Central Highlanders, Boulton continued her good batting form scoring an unbeaten 52 from 58 deliveries, as the Suns made 4/111 from 20 overs.
Addison Bell also added a handy 19 not out as the duo shared an unbeaten 66-run partnership.
Highlanders chased down the total comfortably, just losing one wicket, taken by Holy, with Samantha Brasher making 66 not out.
Yesterday, the Suns were unable to dismiss a Spirit batter with their opposition making 0/140 from their 20 overs.
In response the Suns finished at 8/53, Marks top scoring with 11 not out.
