Blazing double ton

JASON Cullinan added his name to the record books after hitting a double century in Red Cliffs Cricket Association (RCCA) B Grade cricket competition on Saturday.

According to the RCCA online records, the 206 runs Cullinan scored during the round 5 match against Nursery Ridge was the record for all grades, beating the previous high (177) set in the 2009-10 RCCA B Grade season.

Cullinan, who joined Curlwaa Cricket Club at the start of the 2021-22 RCCA season to play with his son Cameron, hit 19 fours and 15 sixes in a whirlwind 25 overs.

The father-son pairing hit 21 fours and 17 sixes during a 268-run stand which set Curlwaa on their way to a total of 2/374 off 34.6 overs. The Islanders then bowled out an undermanned Nursery Ridge side, which had eight players on the day, for 75 runs off 26.5 overs.

It was the continuation of a strong start to the season for the Curlwaa opening batsman, who scored 118 against Fire Brigade in round 4.

But for Jason, the innings at Quandong Park was special because he shared a 268-run partnership with his son. Cameron scored 50 off 50 deliveries during a 107-minute innings.

Jason, who was dropped twice, on 90 and 170, said the best thing was watching his 21-year-old son play the “best innings” of his career.

Tempy also had a century opening stand to help the Tigers set up a matchwinning 4/150 score line at Tempy Recreation Reserve.

Darcy Cresp (56) and Joel Grace (57) hit half-centuries before Grace chipped in with the ball, picking up Fire Brigade’s Glen Walker. Clinton Castleman picked up 2/27 as the Tigers restricted Fire

Brigade to 6/143 to stay at the top of the 2021-22 RCCA B-grade ladder.

Despite a half century by Aaron Negi, South West was unable to take the points going down by seven wickets to Ouyen Rams. Playing at Ouyen high school, the home side reached 3/125 off 20.3 overs. Nicholas Vine hit his second half-century (50) of the season and sit third on the ladder.
