NEW Sunraysia Cricket Association administration manager John Keogh is confident the the 2021-22 season can be a decent one.
He praised the efforts of outgoing president Andrew Farlie, who he credits with putting the competition on a very strong position moving ahead.
Mick Thomson has taken over the presidency of the SCA, while Farlie is still set to provide support for Keogh in the coming months.
Keogh, whose sons Paddy and Seamus are premiership players for Mildura Settlers, said the return of more two-day cricket this season is a big plus for players.
“I think last season worked for players wanting to try some more one-day and Twenty20 games but I think they’re now looking forward to more longer format matches,” he said.
“That’s also what we’re aiming for to help further the development of some of our younger players.
“We’re confident we can put on a decent season. Our draft draw has been set and we’re putting provisions in place for COVID lockdowns.
“You obviously want to be positive but I think we’ve seen that contingencies need to be in place.”
With Seamus set to play Premier Cricket for Heathcote and Paddy preparing to return to Darwin, Keogh said the role would be a good way for him to stay involved in the game.
“With the boys looking like they might be on the move this summer it might be a good way to remain involved,” he said.
“I’ve known ‘Farls’ for years and he’s done a great job with the whole set up of the system that is in place, and we’ve got a very competent board with some new members so everything looks to be shaping up nicely.
“‘Farls’ will still be around helping me in the background for the next few months or so.”
