COOMEALLA Wentworth skipper Justin Freeman has backed big hitting all-rounder Bevan Wade to further show what his side knows he can do.
Wade smashed a match-defining 81 from 41 balls against Nichols Point last weekend to help his side record a win and reclaim third spot on the Sunraysia Cricket Association ladder going into today’s return to one-day matches from a block of Twenty20s.
Wade had made a habit of getting starts this year, dismissed six times in 10 innings for scores between 15 and 29, but put it together against a bowling attack that included some handy names, including Luke Coates, Shaun Mathews, Matt Boyd and Dan Chapman.
“It’s been a long time coming with Bev, he’s been making 30s but we all know what he’s capable of – hitting those big sixes,” Freeman said.
“He took advantage of a small oval (at Nichols Point)”
The Blues have made one change to the side from last weekend, with Tanner Begg back in for Jake Wright.
Their opponents today at Wentworth’s McLeod Oval, NSW rivals Workers Gol Gol, come into the match second on the ladder.
They have made one change with Lauchlan Wade out and spinner Hayden Carrol in.
Today marks game one of a two-game weekend for Workers Gol Gol, with the club also playing in the Twenty20 grand finals against Irymple in the First and Second divisions tomorrow at Mildura Senior College.
