Sunraysia Cricket Association: Round 14 Snapshot

Irymple v Mildura East
Henshilwood Oval

IRYMPLE ARE out for win No.11 on the trot at home to an improving Mildura East outfit that just missed out on two wins from two games last weekend.

East did the job against Merbein South in their first game last week and then fell six runs short against third-placed Settlers while Irymple carried on their merry way with a win over Settlers and then Merbein South.

The Swallows are looking to be premiership favorites, having not dropped a game since round 1, once again on the back of their superb bowling stocks and fielding.

At home they are especially hard to score against and in a Twenty20 it will be difficult for East to get a good score on the board.

Irymple have kept the same line-up from last week, with East making the one change.

Steady batsman Lochie Symes comes in for Tom Dowling.

Today is the final of the Twenty20 rounds of the season with Irymple holding the best record.

Workers Gol Gol have the second-best record, one win ahead of Settlers.

The top two First and Second division sides will do battle in Twenty20 grand finals at Mildura Senior College on Tuesday.

Workers Gol Gol v Mildura Settlers
Alcheringa Oval

WORKERS Gol Gol are all but certain to qualify for Tuesday’s Twenty20 grand final, however they will want to put it beyond doubt against Settlers today.

The hosts at Alcheringa are one win ahead of Settlers and have a handy gap in net run rate, .911 to .587, but to remove all doubt, a win would be just what captain-coach Adam Thomson is after.

Shac Thomas will be key for the hosts, after a solid outing with the bat last weekend.

Thomas scored 47 and then 53 to help his side to wins against Nichols Point and Coomealla Wentworth.

Settlers lost to Irymple and then were pushed all the way by East but have been known to lift in previous years against the better sides.

For them Josh Coates and Liam Goss are in for Joel Perry and Josh Goss, while Workers Gol Gol welcome back Wade Hancock and Ben McPhee for Anthony Carroll and Vaughan McClure.

Nichols Point v Coomealla Wentworth
Nichols Point Reserve

LAST weekend was almost worst-case scenario for these sides after back-to-back losses –  perhaps only softened by the fact the other side also failed to win.

While Mildura West rocketed back into finals calculations, Nichols Point’s aspirations took a hit and Coomealla Wentworth’s wheels wobbled.

The Blues are still in the four, a game above West, while the Pointers are two games adrift of today’s opponents.

A win either steadies the ship for the visitors or keeps the hosts alive.

Nichols Point welcome back Matt Boyd, Dan Chapman and Riley Jobson, with Dale Chappell back to the twos and Tate Hulland and Will Liddle out.

Coomealla Wentworth have made one change with paceman Cam Douglass in for Tanner Begg.
