Earlier, veteran Matt Cameron took four wickets to help restrict the Saints.

His first three wickets were the first three of the innings, with Merbein South reeling at 3/14.

Nick Jensen, Thomas and Jayden Brooks chimed in with one each.

Ilario Cavallo provided some resistance with his 41 off 47 balls but he was Merbein South’s last man out and Cameron’s fourth scalp of the day.

Hamim Miah, standing in for injured captain Matt O’Connor, was Merbein South’s next best bat with 17.

Stanbrook stars as Settlers do it easy

LUKE Stanbrook fell agonisingly short of a century In Mildura Settlers’ big win over Mildura West at Mildura Senior College.

Living up to his nickname of “Bruiser”, Stanbrook was aggressive from the outset on his way to 98 off 71 balls, clubbing five fours and seven sixes to have Settlers in control of the run chase.

The big opener was eventually bowled by Shane Driscoll in the 29th over with Settlers only needing another 29 runs to equal West’s 170.

They eventually reeled in the total in the 35th over just three wickets down.

Paddy Keogh chimed in with 30 and captain-coach Braidyn Turner finished 22 not out.

In West’s innings all six Settlers bowlers used got at least one wicket, with Chris Williams (42), Ben Hallam (37) and Davison Mbindi (32) making the bulk of West’s runs.

Irymple choke the life out of Nichols Point

IRYMPLE cruised to an easy win, losing just one wicket and taking less than 14 overs to pass Nichols Point’s 78.

Batting first, Nichols Point never got going as Irymple’s strong bowling and fielding at Henshilwood Oval kept the visitors well in check.

Co-captain Mark Thomson took 3/16 from his eight overs, with Dean Fairlie finishing with 3/7 from 7.4 overs.

Nichols Point’s batsmen were never able to freely score, with Tyson Giles’ 31 from 47 their best effort.

In the run chase despite Matt Boyd claiming the early wicket of Billy Phelan for three Irymple rarely looked troubled.

Co-captain Dan Coghlan, who became a father during the week, finished with a run a ball unbeaten 39 and Bryson Lush scored 35 off 36.

Nichols Point’s day appeared to get worse with Boyd suffering a knee injury and failing to finish his third over.
