Sunraysia Cricket Association Round 4 snapshpt

Mildura Setters v Mildura West
Mildura Senior College

LAST WEEK: West cruised to a win over Mildura East, while Settlers did it easy with the bat in losing just one wicket chasing Merbein South’s 150.

CHANGES: Setts have lost Seamus Keogh, who is trialling with Victorian Premier Cricket club Northcote, and Jack Noonan with the club handing debuts to Callen Hickey and Josh Goss. For West, Sam Magnisalis debuts, with Rhiann O’Donnell out of the side.

ONES TO WATCH: Two of the competition’s form batsmen meet at the top of their respective orders. Luke Stanbrook is averaging more than 100 for Settlers and is striking the ball incredibly well. For West, Chris Williams has 75 and 76 in his two hits this season.

THE WORD: Settlers’ bowling stocks have taken a hit with Keogh out, leaving a lot to senior heads Mark Kerr and Brayden Wood. Their batting is the deeper of the two on paper and this should tip the scales in their favour.

Merbein South v Workers Gol Gol
Chaffey Park

LAST WEEK: Workers Gol Gol looked precarious defending a small total against Irymple but came out on top thanks to a sterling bowling performance. Merbein South battled admirably against Setts with the bat but were then comfortably reeled in.

CHANGES: Bowler Cam Holland is in for Merbein South at the expense of the experienced Aaron Walder. Workers Gol Gol are unchanged.

ONES TO WATCH: Muhammad Haidry was the game changer with the ball for Workers Gol Gol last week with his four wickets in six balls demolishing Irymple and if he’s anywhere near that level today then Merbein South are in strife. Dylan Vertigan is Merbein South’s key man and if he can come in with his side having already set a base for him to be able to attack, he might be the one to get the Saints close to their first win.

THE WORD: Merbein South weren’t disgraced with the bat last week and as long as a few guys can contribute scores they can be competitive but they need someone to step up with the ball. Workers Gol Gol should win this comfortably.

Irymple v Nichols Point
Henshilwood Reserve

LAST WEEK: Both sides had disasters with the bat last week in losses, with Irymple bowled out for 63 by Workers Gol Gol and Nichols Point for 58 against Coomealla Wentworth.

CHANGES: Irymple have named an unchanged line-up. Nichols Point have brought in Dean Fulco and Daniel Chapman for David Hogarth and Anthony Morris.

ONES TO WATCH: Leigh Thomson-Mathews’ run of two half centuries was ended when he went out early against Coomealla Wentworth and it will be interesting to see his response against another quality bowling attack. For Irymple, experienced bat Jarrad Armsden hasn’t got going this year and will be looking to solidify his spot in the side.

THE WORD: Two sides that are better than their results showed last week, but Irymple’s bowling attack should have them favourites in this one.
