Red Cliffs Round 5 cricket

A grade

Ridge hope to extend lead

NURSERY Ridge have a chance to steal a march on nearest rivals Tempy at the Onion Patch today.

Currently top with three wins and a draw from the opening four rounds of Red Cliffs cricket, Nursery Ridge are 15 points clear of second-placed Tempy.

A win to Nursery Ridge puts Tempy back in the chasing pack while a victory for Tempy takes them to the top.

The sides in that chasing pack, Ouyen Rams and Fire Brigade, meet at Quandong Park with the winner gaining ground on the top two no matter the result of that match.

Fire Brigade are in good batting form, particularly through the agency of last week’s centurions in Jason Beard and Mark East.

South West play Millewa on the main oval, looking to get their account for the season opened.

They have one effective draw for the season, which came after their game against Nursery Ridge was called off due to adverse pitch conditions.

Millewa were smacked to all parts by Fire Brigade last weekend and will want to get back to the form that saw them knock off Tempy the week before.

B grade

Tempy, Curlwaa lurking

WITH the top two teams in Cardross and Ouyen having a bye, Tempy and Curlwaa will be looking to draw level on points with the pacesetters.

Third-placed Tempy play sixth-placed Nursery Ridge, while fourth-placed Curlwaa are up against eighth-placed South West.

Tempy and Curlwaa have 2-1 records and start strong favourites against winless sides.

The round’s other game is Fire Brigade against Millewa, with Millewa looking for their first victory of the season and Fire Brigade chasing win No.2.
