Sunraysia Cricket Association sticking to plan – for now

SUNRAYSIA Cricket Association (SCA) officials are continuing to plan for an October 10 start to the 2020-2021 season.

The board will meet Monday evening following weekend announcements by the Victorian Government.

President Andrew Farlie is hoping current restrictions will be eased to allow competitions to start as planned.

“We have a meeting on Monday night which we will sort a few things out at and we will have a bit more of an idea then,” Farlie said.

“We have an option A and an option B at the moment, whether we need to pursue an option C, I’m not too sure at the minute, but we have a couple of scenarios we are going to talk through next week.

“But obviously we are just hanging out and waiting and also waiting for some word from Cricket Victoria. The border is just as much of an issue as the restrictions.”

Farlie said once they had a clear direction they would be in contact with clubs to advise them of the road map forward.

“Once we know what is happening, the plan is to give clubs at least a week’s notice from when restrictions change and they are able to start training and then on to the start of competition,” he said.

“Then it will be what the state of the New South Wales restrictions are as to what type of competition goes ahead.

“Once we get to that third stage we should be OK to play and train, it’s just a matter of giving clubs the time to get their acts together and what we do with NSW.”

The SCA will have a staggered start across it different competitions.

The senior men’s grades are scheduled to start October 10, while the women are set to hit off on October 16, followed by the juniors the next day.
