Swallows’ U-16s rule roost

IRYMPLE continued their dominance of this year’s SCA under-16 competition, easily accounting for Mildura Settlers in the grand final at the weekend.

The standout side all year, the young Swallows were never troubled by Setts, running out victors by 145 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Irymple’s batsmen took charge with Bailey Anderson (75 not out), Jack Baird (75 not out) and Jed Connelly (62) leading the way.

Anderson has blossomed as a player this season and his continued improvement has seen him become a regular member of the Swallows’ senior side, who start their finals campaign this weekend.

Mildura Settlers’ Cameron Kiel did his bit to try and get his side over the line.

Kiel, who was a member of Setts’ senior premiership team last season, played a lone hand with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 75 in his side’s 134.

In other junior finals, Mildura Settlers reversed the tables on Irymple, winning the under-14 Division 1 grand final and Red Cliffs proved too strong for Nichols Point in the under-14 Division 2 finale.
