Play abandoned

SUNRAYSIA’S second Melbourne Country Week cricket game was abandoned yesterday after showers hit Melbourne.

Sunraysia were in a spot of trouble at 7/148 off 38.1 overs against Bellarine Cricket Association when rain stopped play, but ended up with a share of the points to add to their day one victory against Hamilton District.

Sunraysia won the toss and batted, with Settlers’ Paddy Keogh (47), Coomealla Wentworth’s Liam Freeman (33) and clubmate Bevan Wade (22) the only players to reach double figures.

Rain hit in the 39th over, with play unable to continue.

Sunraysia are set to play South West Cricket Association at Williamstown today in the third and final minor round before tomorrow’s semi-final and Friday’s final.

Sunraysia sit in second position on net run rate, with Bellarine top after easily accounting for South West on day one.
