MORE than a thousand days since his last match at first-class level, former Irymple and Nursery Ridge paceman Jake Reed has been called into the Hobart Hurricanes’ Big Bash League (BBL) squad to face the Sydney Thunder in Sydney tonight.
Reed, 29, has been dogged by injury over his career, having last played in the Sheffield Shield in February 2017 and the BBL in January that year – playing his last game for the club on January 21, 2017 – but Hobart’s injury woes have resulted in him receiving a call-up.
Reed is an injury replacement for James Faulkner, with fellow Hobart fast bowler Riley Meredith also sidelined.
The Hurricanes will be out to return to the winners’ list following a five-wicket defeat to the Brisbane Heat at The Gabba on Thursday night. The Hurricanes and Thunder are among four teams with three wins to their name this season.
Reed has played one second XI game for Victoria this year, claiming figures of 1/88 from 17 overs against Queensland in September.
He has taken nine wickets in three Victorian Premier Cricket Firsts matches for Footscray this season, his first at the club since crossing from Geelong.
