Red Cliffs Cricket Association picks top squad

RED Cliffs Cricket Association (RCCA) has named a strong squad for its Bendigo Country Week campaign this month.

The association named a 14-man list for the January 20-24 tournament, where the RCCA plays in Division 2.

Association treasurer Geoff Christensen said the board was happy with the squad – selected after training sessions in November and on January 5.

“We never quite get everyone you want to travel, but it looks pretty handy,” Christensen said.

“We just put a call-out to all people who are interested in representing the RCCA to get along to those training sessions.

“It’s open to A and B grade players, we use our team of the year from the previous year as the basis of where we start … it depends on availability and all that sort of stuff to end up in the squad.”

Following tradition, the side’s captain is yet to be named and will not be until the 11th hour.

“The captain is elected on the bus on the way down or at the ground … that’s the tradition we’ve always done,” Christensen said.

The RCCA open their campaign on January 20 against the Grampians Cricket Association.

The next day they play Grassmere Cricket Association, and then the Northern United Cricket Association the day after that.

They then play the Wimmera-Mallee in their final qualifying game, hoping to make the final on January 24.

All games will be live scored on MyCricket.

The squad: Mark East (Fire Brigade), Lachlan Rohde (Fire Brigade), Dom Leach (Ouyen), Alex Morrish (Ouyen), Connor Schultz (Ouyen),Lochie Comrie (Ouyen), Shannon Bowen (Nursery Ridge),

Evan Lampard (Nursery Ridge), Mitch Shaw (Nursery Ridge), Jason Finch (Nursery Ridge), Allan Brown (Nursery Ridge), Heath Smith (Tempy), Ben Mole (Tempy), Tate Hulland (Tempy). Support staff: Craig Parker, Jason Hill, Steven Begg, Robert Taylor, Jeff Scott.
