Parker puts in top effort

A HANDY individual contribution from Victorian skipper Teagan Parker couldn’t secure bragging rights for the side against South Australia in round four at the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Queensland.

The former Workers Gol Gol cricketer was up against Settlers duo Sarah Telfer and Shania McKinnon, both representing the Croweaters, and did her bit but couldn’t find much support.

After being sent in to bat Parker top-scored with 24 off 30 balls for the Victorians in their tally of 6/87 from their 20 overs.

McKinnon bowled second change for South Australia, taking 1/23 from four overs, while Telfer – a more-than-handy seamer for Settlers – did not bowl.

Parker then took the new ball for Victoria and finished with 1/8 from three overs.

However, South Australia were able to pass Victoria’s total in the 16th over with just two wickets down.

Neither Telfer nor McKinnon was required to bat.

Round five of the championships was being played yesterday afternoon, with Victoria playing East Asia Pacific and South

Australia playing Western Australia.

Parker was 25 not out off 26 balls for Victoria (2/56 off 11 overs) when Sunraysia Daily went to print, while South Australia were 2/53 off 10 overs with McKinnon and Telfer yet to bat.

On Monday, Victoria had a mixed day, losing first up to New South Wales and then defeating Western Australia, while South Australia suffered a loss to East Asia Pacific.

Both sides lost their opening matches on Sunday, Victoria to hosts Queensland and South Australia to New South Wales.
