Sunraysia romps home in junior country week

SUNRAYSIA Cricket Association romped home to a six-wicket win in Thursday’s Under 17s Junior Country Week round 2 Twenty20 match against Swan Hill District Association at Mildura Senior College.

Batting first Swan Hill were bowled out for 83 in the 20th over, with Ayden Costa (3/17), Oskar Faulkhead (2/13) and Jack Baird (2/15) doing much of the damage.

In response it was Junior Country Week specialist Cam Kiel who led the way with the bat for Sunraysia.

The composed opener, who scored two 100s in two innings at Under 15 Country Week last year, finished with 43 not out from 45 balls, guiding Sunraysia home with six wickets to spare in the 14th over.

The final is to be held Friday at Mildura Senior College.

Meanwhile, Sunraysia also won easily at Under 15 level following a good all-round performance at John Hall Oval against Swan Hill District.

The hosts bowled out the visitors for just 67 in the 37th over, with Merbein South’s Dillon Furze the chief destroyer.

Furze finished with outstanding figures of 3/4 from eight overs, including four maidens.

Amazingly, only two of the four runs scored off his bowling were off the bat; the other two were wides.

Workers Gol Gol’s Tom Stokes took 2/6, with Settlers’s Josh Goss (2/15) and Irymple’s Zac Heath (2/18) also chipping in.

With the bat Sunraysia made short work of the total, reaching 2/70 after 22 overs.

Workers Gol Gol’s Zac Tankard led the way with an unbeaten 34 while Irymple’s Jonty Purdue made 17.

Mildura West’s Sam Magnisalis made seven runs at the event, dismissed after the total had been reached.

Sunraysia’s Under 15s play Northern Districts today from 8.30am in a Twenty20 match at John Hall Oval, with the fixture altered from its scheduled 10am start due to the expected heat.
