Teagan Parker to lead Vics at country champs

FORMER Workers Gol Gol cricketer Teagan Parker will captain Victoria at the Australian Women’s Country Cricket Championships next month in Toowoomba.

Parker, who captains Melbourne Cricket Club’s women’s side in Victorian Premier Cricket, was part of Victoria Country’s success in the 2019 edition of the carnival in Shepparton.

“It’s always an honour representing your state, representing my hometown and the country region is something extra special,” she said.

“And obviously it’s nice to have the captaincy next to your name … it doesn’t mean a whole lot but I’m excited to get up there.

“It’s an awesome standard of cricket, a lot of states have either previously contracted or currently contracted players mixed throughout … it’s awesome to play against some of the best cricketers in the country.”

Meanwhile, Settlers duo Shania McKinnon and Sarah Telfer will also play at the championships for South Australia.

The all-rounders are playing with Kensington Cricket Club in South Australian Cricket Association Premier Cricket when not donning the double blue of Settlers.

“They are a lot younger than me but we have played against each other previously. I think it’s really exciting a couple of young country girls get to pull on the SA guernsey,” Parker said.

“They’ll be super stoked to be out there as well and I’m pumped to be out there with them and wish them all the best.”

The championships bowl off on January 5 with Victoria playing Queensland and South Australia meeting New South Wales.

The three Sunraysia girls will face off on January 7 at Harristown Park.
