IT has been a good couple of weeks for Merbein South veteran David Hancock.
The 50-year-old has scored back-to-back Sunraysia Cricket Association Second Division hundreds and this time last week celebrated the arrival of his first grandchild.
Top-order bat Hancock scored his first hundred in a one-run loss against Nichols Point in round 9, reaching 114, before scoring 116 last weekend against Coomealla Wentworth.
That game is still running, however Hancock’s Saints have already secured first-innings points.
“I had a couple of good games,” Hancock said.
Last weekend’s efforts came just hours after eldest daughter Alicia gave birth to her and husband Reece Chapman’s first son.
“Archer David, I even got a look in,” proud grandfather Hancock said.
Alicia went into labour Friday evening and then gave birth finally at 4am on Saturday, certainly not the ideal preparation for a day at the crease.
“I was feeling like s–t when I rocked up to cricket,” Hancock said with a laugh. “I’d had hardly any sleep.”
Hancock said it was a rare enough occasion after his first century when a veteran opponent also brought up a ton, let alone to complete consecutive hundreds on such a big milestone day off the pitch.
“I thought it was pretty unique last week when Dave Hogarth (for Nichols Point) and I both made hundreds – we both played juniors against each other,” he said.
“I turned 50 in March and he can’t be far away.”
