Irymple have Pointers on ropes in SCA round 10

Nichols Point 81 v Irymple 126/1

IRYMPLE have secured first innings points and are on their way to a potential outright win this Saturday over Nichols Point at Nichols Point Reserve in Sunraysia Cricket Association First Division round 10.

Winning the toss and sending the Pointers in, Irymple’s bowlers were on fire to have the hosts 9/49 and in dire straits before eventually bowling them out for 81 in the 40th over.

Co-coach Mark Thomson was the pick of the bowlers for the Swallows, with 5/31 off 17 overs.

For Nichols Point only No.10 Aaron Sayers (25 not out) in a 32-run stand with No.11 Nelson Mensforth (seven) was able to save his side from further misery.

In response, Irymple opener Jeremy Graham fell early for four with the score 10, but from there it was all Irymple with the visitors 1/126 at stumps.

Billy Phelan (66) and Jordan Payne (52) are unbeaten at the crease.

Mildura West 103 and 1/9 v Mildura Settlers 5/106 dec

MILDURA Settlers, like Irymple, are chasing full points after also claiming a first-innings win over Mildura West at Mildura Senior College.

Settlers bowled West out for 103 and then passed their total in the 32nd over, sending the visitors back in for a tricky four-over spell.

And the aggressive captaincy paid off, with Settlers claiming the wicket of West’s Ben Hallam for three, leaving West 1/9 at stumps just six runs ahead of Settlers with nine wickets in hand.

Earlier it was the canny Richard Wyld who did the damage in West’s first innings with 4/16 off 10.4 overs while the other three bowlers used each took two wickets.

Will Parsons’ 22 was the top score for West.

Chasing a small total Wyld (24 not out), Jason Morrison (23) and Tarque Williamson (18 not out) got their team past the target.

Locke Thornton took 3/11 for West.
