WITH eight rounds complete in the Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA), Nichols Point captain Brad Thomas is looking forward to matches returning to the two-day format.
The SCA board has been creative with its fixturing this season and while not everyone has agreed with it, it has created plenty of interest.
Thomas said he applauded officials for trying something new, but he is one player who is looking forward to the return to the longer format.
“With the Twenty20 stuff I enjoyed it and I know talking to other players they enjoyed it, but I think the day went for a bit long,” Thomas said.
The appealing thing about Twenty20 cricket is the shortness of it.
“Playing two games in the one day made the day even longer.
“It is good the SCA board is trying these things and we can only improve on it from here.”
Under new president Andrew Farlie, the SCA started the season with a 40-over one-day match before six Twenty20 matches played over three weeks.
The Twenty20 games were played on Friday nights and Saturday afternoons with most teams playing two matches on the Saturday afternoon.
Thomas said the return of red-ball cricket would better suit his side as they look to consolidate their position in the top four.
“I probably see us suited more to the two-day format so to get four out of seven wins to start the season with the white ball I thought was a really good effort by our guys,” Thomas said.
“We are really looking forward to the two-day stuff – it really suits us.”
