IN a history-making weekend, Mildura Settlers proved their class scoring two comfortable wins in rounds 2 and 3 of the Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA).
For the first time, the SCA fixtured two Twenty20 matches on the one day, the first hitting off at 12.30pm followed by another at 4pm.
In the opening game, Setts were at home to Coomealla Wentworth at Mildura Senior College.
Coomie won the toss and elected to bat, posting the respectable total of 9/96 off their allotted 20 overs with Luke Cullinan (20) and Bevan Wade (20) best with the bat.
In response, Setts lost six wickets reaching their target in the 19th over with recruit John Pratt unbeaten on 31 and Travis Shawcross on 40.
Setts’ second outing for the day, against Merbein South, proved an entertaining contest with the Saints showing some good signs, particularly with the bat.
Batting first the Saints were in an aggressive mood and, despite losing early wickets, continued to attack with Hamim Miah leading the way.
Miah was in punishing form, scoring 51 off 48 deliveries.
Veteran Shane Trinick (18) provided solid support in the middle order, but it was Mark White’s dashing unbeaten 42 off 30 balls late in the innings which helped the Saints to 5/123 off their 20 overs.
In response, the home side were in trouble early, losing star opening batsman Jason Morrison for three, but veteran Mark Cleary (31 not out) and skipper Braidyn Turner (42) steadied the ship as they reached the target with a couple of overs to spare.

Irymple 2/67 d Coomealla Wentworth 9/65
AFTER three rounds Irymple find themselves sitting on top off the SCA table.
The Swallows proved too strong for Mildura East and Coomealla Wentworth in their two Twenty20 matches at Henshilwood Oval on Saturday.
In the opening game Irymple were pushed by Mildura East who put themselves in the match with a solid bowling performance, but their batsmen were unable to get the job done, falling short of their target by 15 runs.
Irymple won the toss and decided to bat in perfect conditions, but thanks to some tight bowling by Jayden Hunt (2/15) off four overs and Charlie Berry (0/10) off three overs were restricted to 8/91 off their 20 overs.
Needing less than five runs an over, East started their run chase poorly, losing opener Jonty Chaproniere for a duck and then Joel Walsh for four.
Mildura East were unable to recover and despite 34 off 31 deliveries by Vic Singh they were all out in 17th over. Billy Phelan did the damage with the ball taking 4/9 off 2.4 overs. Chase Stone provided great support claiming two wickets from his three overs to finish with 2/17.
Irymple kept the momentum going in their second match of the day with a comfortable win over Coomealla Wentworth.
Chasing 65 for victory the Swallows lost just two wickets in reaching their target in the 11th over.
Recruit Bryson Lush did the damage with the ball claiming 3/16 off his four overs.
With the bat Jordan Payne (24) Jarrod Armsden (25) were the best of the Swallows.
Workers Gol Gol 3/155 d Mildura West 9/122
Mildura East 7/107 d Mildura West 105
MILDURA West are yet to open their account for the season, losing both Twenty20 matches on Saturday.
In their first game, against Workers Gol Gol, they were unable to contain hard-hitting Shac Thomas, who smashed 72 off 49 deliveries, as his side posted 3/155 off their 20 overs.
In reply, West could manage only 9/122 with Chris Williams (37) leading the way with the bat.
In their second game, Mildura West fell just short in an entertaining clash with Mildura East at Aero Ovals.
Batting first, West were bowled out in the 19th over for 105 with Ben Hallam (16) and Shane Driscoll (22) providing solid contributions.
Ranjeet Singh (3/19) and Andrew Ross (3/18) impressed for East with the ball.
Skipper Josh Berry (17) and Vic Singh (43) were the stars with the bat for Mildura East as they chased down their target with three deliveries to spare.
Mildura East now have two wins from three matches and are just outside the top four on percentage.
