Women back at the crease for SCA season

THE Sunraysia Cricket Association (SCA) women’s season hits off Friday evening with a full round of matches.

Ten teams will contest this season’s popular women’s competition.

Reigning premiers Mildura Settlers again look to be one of the sides to beat.

Setts get their season under way with a home game against Workers Gol Gol.

Nichols Point Green will be hoping to get their season kick-started with a victory over Mildura West.

The Pointers will be looking to go one step further in 2019-2020 after going down to Mildura Settlers in last season’s grand final.

Green are one of two sides Nichols Point have entered in the women’s competition.

The Pointers Gold side will also be hoping to make some improvement after falling to Green in the semi-finals.

Gold are at home to Fire Brigade while in other matches Merbein South host Coomealla Wentworth and Irymple play Mildura East at Henshilwood Oval.

Women’s cricket in Sunraysia has grown in strength and popularity over recent times.

It will be further boosted by the introduction of a junior girls’ competition which starts on Saturday.
