Pointers send warning, East win thriller

Pointers send warning

NICHOLS Point lived up to the early season hype, easily accounting for last year’s finalists Coomealla Wentworth.

Chasing 118, the Pointers reach their target in the 33rd over thanks to an unbeaten 64 by new captain Brad Thomas.

Thomas played a patient knock in his first outing for his new club and his experience and class at the top of the order will add another layer to Nichols Point’s batting.

Dean Fulco also had a good start to the season scoring 37, while with the ball promising youngster Nash Richman finished with 3/23 off eight overs.

For Coomealla Wentworth, Matt Job was a solid contributor scoring 51, while Tom Douglas chipped in with 22.

With the ball, Bevan Wade worked hard and, despiting not picking up a wicket, finished with the economical figures of 0/16 off eight overs.

Despite the loss, Coomealla Wentworth will improve as the season progresses with a number of their top players unavailable for Saturday’s match.

East win thriller

MILDURA East started the season with a thrilling win over Merbein South at Kenny Park.

Chasing 151, the visitors reached the total with six balls to spare.

Mukesh Sharma set the win up with 52 off 47 balls.

Batting at No.3, Sharma hit six fours and one six in his 63 minutes at the crease.

Blake Myers (16) and Jhy Berry (22) were also solid contributors.

For the Saints, Shane Trinick (28), Mark White (30) and Hamim Miah (34) were the best of their batsmen.

The pick of the bowlers for Mildura East were Jayden Hunt (2/26 off seven overs) and Baljinder Sandhu (2/26 off eight).

The Saints got good service with the ball from Darius Modoo-Loy, who finished with 2/24 off his eight overs and Damon Duffield (2/26 off eight).
