Boost your COVID protection, Mildura

MOST of the Mildura community who contracted COVID during this year’s winter months are now eligible for a booster dose of COVID vaccine.

Almost 6000 COVID cases were reported in the region during June, July and August.

Health advice states a person must wait three months after having COVID before they can have a booster shot.

Similarly, residents must wait three months after their third COVID dose before receiving a fourth dose.

To date in Mildura, 56.2 per cent of the eligible population have received their third dose and 17.8 per cent have received their fourth dose.

Whilst case numbers have been declining recently, 85 patients were admitted to hospital in Mildura over the winter period, with a number of those in the Intensive Care Unit.

Sunraysia Community Health Services have vaccinated more than 1000 people this year in clinics located in the community.

Pop-up vaccination clinics will be run in a variety of locations this week including at the Mildura Riverfront on Wednesday, Mildura Mall on Thursday and Mildura Central in the Annecto offices on Friday.

The free walk-in clinics provide concurrent COVID and flu vaccinations. No bookings are required and children aged five to 11 can also be vaccinated.

Those without a Medicare card are able to access the clinic.

The community can keep up to date with upcoming clinic times and locations by following the Sunraysia Community Health Services Facebook page or checking the website: www.schs.com.au.

Vaccination remains the most effective way to protect yourself against severe illness.
