THE rate of new COVID infections in Mildura remains relatively low compared to highs of several weeks ago.
Friday’s release of daily figures showed 12 new cases in the Mildura local government area, well down from a previous peak near 200.
The number of active cases in the local government area was 430, a little more than half the peak of the pandemic so far.
In the Robinvale postcode, which is outside the LGA, just one new case was reported and there were 24 active cases in that area.
The continuing shortage of self-applied rapid antigen tests, however, means true new-case numbers remain unclear.
According to RAT and PCR tests that have been recorded in Victoria, the state’s number of new confirmed or probable cases was 12,755 on Friday.
The death toll among people with COVID remains the most troubling figure, and another 39 people lost their lives in Victoria between Thursday and Friday.
Although new case numbers have dropped considerably in NSW, that state also continues to have a high death toll. There were 35 fatalities reported on Friday and 189 patients were being treated in intensive care.
