COVID-19 watch for Far West after wastewater samples

RESIDENTS of Dareton, Wilcannia and South Broken Hill have been warned to be especially vigilant for COVID-19 symptoms after traces of the virus were found in wastewater at these locations.

It was found in samples taken at South Broken Hill on November 11 and from Wilcannia and Dareton on November 9.

A Far West Local Health District advisory says that “residents are urged to be vigilant for symptoms and come forward for testing”.

No traces of the virus were detected in sewage samples taken in Wentworth and Buronga on November 9.

On Sunday, four new cases were confirmed in Broken Hill and one in Menindee.

The district’s total number of active cases is 32 (13 in Broken Hill, one in Wentworth LGA, two in Menindee and 16 in Ivanhoe).

The most recent figures available from the Victorian Health Department for the Mildura LGA were released on Saturday, when two new infections were recorded for a total of 102 active cases.
