COVID fears shut down Ouyen supermarket

OUYEN’S only supermarket was closed on Friday due to a COVID-19 case in the town, Sunraysia Daily understands.

Jason’s IGA Plus Liquor on Oke Street was closed on Friday for deep cleaning and for staff to get tested.

It is understood the risk of exposure is low.

A new case in Ouyen was confirmed in the Victorian case data, which was released at noon.

Mallee Track Health and Community Services (MTHCS), which operates testing facilities in Ouyen and Sea Lake, was bracing for a bumper testing day.

“Only attend the MTHCS medical clinic for COVID-19 testing if you have been contacted by the Health Department and told to do so, or if you have symptoms of COVID-19,” MTHCS said in a social media post on Friday morning.

“Please phone before you attend the clinic. The Ouyen medical clinic can be contacted on 5092 1168.”

There were 2179 new locally acquired cases in Victoria on Friday and another six lives lost to COVID-19.

There were 34 new cases in the Mildura LGA on Friday, where there are now 188 active cases, and three new cases in Dareton, taking the town’s total to 21 active cases.
