Menindee records first COVID case

THE Central Darling Shire had its first confirmed case of COVID-19 on Monday evening.

It was the first confirmed case for the township of Menindee.

The Far West Local Health District (FWLHD) reported the total number of cases in the district was 273 (with one in Balranald, 119 in Broken Hill, 152 in Wilcannia and one in Menindee).

While the case in Menindee is still being investigated, the total number of active cases for the Central Darling Shire LGA is now 74 (58 in Broken Hill, 15 in Wilcannia and one in Menindee).

The news of the latest positive case follows testing of sewage samples from September 28 which found traces of COVID-19 in Dareton, and in Balranald from a sample taken on September 22.

FWLHD is calling on anyone in Menindee to get tested if they show symptoms. Testing is available at Menindee Oval from 10am to 4pm.
