A NEW COVID-19 case has been recorded in Mildura on Thursday, but authorities say the new infection poses no risk to the community.
The case was a known household contact of an existing case and had been in isolation, according to COVID response commander Jeroen Weimar, who announced the case at Thursday’s press conference.
“In Mildura, (we have) one case which is a known household contact of the positive case we discussed a number of weeks ago,” he said.
“We are still seeing household transmission in that family, otherwise isolating and otherwise well.”
The addition means there are now five active cases in Mildura. It is the rural city’s 17th case since the pandemic began.
It was one of 766 new COVID-19 cases recorded in Victoria on Thursday – the state’s highest single-day tally in the pandemic. There were four deaths.
There are 6666 active cases in Victoria, 257 of whom are in hospital, with 60 in intensive care and 41 on ventilators.
